Creating Content to Attract Visitors (Part II)
STEP 3: Choose You Niche
Now that you've figured out what you intend to write about, you must first think of attracting customers.
People hunt for information based on keywords. When you look something up on Google, don't you also use keywords? It's the same concept when you're the web site owner. Google will index and categorize your web site based on the keywords that it finds in your pages.
And when someone searches for those keywords, Google will list down web sites that has those keywords and I hope your web site is one of them.
Hoping in futile in business. Don't rely on hope. Have a plan and work your plan.
So, let's say you would like to promote flowers on you web site How do you know which keywords are important a web site selling flowers.
First, generic option would be to use Yahoo's Free Keyword tracker. Here's the results for 'flowers'
From here you can see the number of searches done in March 2007 for the keyword 'flowers' and the related searches. This is very useful when you're using Yahoo Search or Google's AdWords or AdSense.
When you see something like this, don't bid for the first o second terms in the listing. Why? Because everyone else will be doing the same. Bid for specific searches in the ranges below, eg. buy flower online (30,000 searches), deliver flower (80,000 searches).
Why bid for them? Because their specific! But you may be saying, "But then, I am losing because I am not visible to around 500,000 searches! This is ridiculous! I hate you"
When people search for flowers, how sure are you all of them are interested in buying flowers? Some of them might want pictures of flowers, other are researching on types of flowers and so forth. But the 30,000 searches for buying flowers online are people who have a specific need, and these are the people you need to make sure you target!
Got it?
