An unknown tourist spot in Penang is the War Museum.
This is basically an abandoned war post that was occupied by the
British and then the Japanese. All the old baracks and ammunition
cellars are still there. Some underground tunnels are still present.
The admission price is RM15 for Malaysians and RM30 (USD9) for
foreigners. Below is some interesting pictures of the place.

Old letters and stories contributed by people who unfortunately
had to go through all that pain and suffering.

Pictures below are taken from inside an ammunition bunker.
It's brightly lighted these days but there is still a dark
tunnel which you can walk into. You can find some old pictures
and memorabilias of the war.
To my mother in law, these pictures brought back some horrific
memories as she lost all of her family members when the tree
they took shelter in when the Japanese started attacking was
bombed. Everyone died. She was on the bicycle with her dad and
noticed a headless body riding a bicycle past her. A little
later, she found the remains of her family.

Apparently this is where the used to hang people. Also, at
the bottom of the shaft was an escape route to the sea side.

|
An old ammunition bunker on the side of the sea where the
British could have a clear view of the sea. Apparently, the
story goes that somehow the Japanese sneaked into this area and
killed everyone that was on duty that day.

Memories of those who have died for this country.

|
The attrocities of war should never be forgotten. Or else
all those who have died, died in vain. This is what the Japanese
did to the people of Malaysia.

Toilet anyone?

There were many more pictures taken from various other
buildings. Therw was even a little green snake crossing my path
as I entered into one of those rooms. Not dangerous in the
morning but I am pretty sure more of its friends roam the place
at night during the night safari. Oh yes, there's a night safari
from 7-11 pm daily. One of the prominent signs around advices
you to be aware of wild animals, so dont stray too far from your
guide.
As I mentioned above, not too many Malaysians know about this
place. And after being here, my mother in law doesnt want to
come here anymore, it brings back too much painful memories of
the pain she had to endure during the Japanese occupation.
War should never take place.
